Iceland’s Minister of Industry and acting Foreign Minister Össur Skarphédinsson (Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir is on sick leave) wrote on his blog yesterday that Israeli authorities announced to Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs that a planned trip to Iceland by the Israeli minister of education has been called off.

According to Morgunbladid, six Israeli ministers are currently visiting countries whose governments are opposed to the Gaza air strikes to explain Israel’s side of the conflict.
“As acting foreign minister I decided to turn down the offer of a visit from the Israeli minister while missiles from the Israeli army rained over the Gaza Strip where 100 children have died per week,” Skarphédinsson wrote. “With that decision I wanted to emphasize the harsh condemnation [of the attacks] by Icelandic authorities.”
