International Documentary Festival in Ísafjördur

An international documentary festival and conference entitled “Breaking the Barriers” will be held in Ísafjördur, the capital of Iceland’s West Fjords, between May 29 and June 1. Many associations, Icelandic and foreign alike, are cooperating on organizing the event.

The main drive behind the festival is the Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA), an association of Nordic anthropologists who promote visual anthropology. NAFA holds an international documentary festival and conference every year in a different Nordic country, ruv.is reports.

During the festival the latest documentaries in the field of anthropology are screened and discussed. The festival also hosts presentations in relation to the films; in Ísafjördur both in Icelandic and foreign experts will give presentations.

Apart from NAFA, the Jón Sigurdsson Museum in Hrafnseyri, the University Center of the West Fjords, the Edinburgh House in Ísafjördur and the local association Roots on cultural diversity will also participate in organizing “Breaking the Barriers.”
