International Conference on Volcanoes Held in Iceland

An international conference on volcanology, attended by 900 members of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) begins in the University of Iceland today and lasts until August 22.

President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson gives the opening speech, Morgunbladid reports.

Around 700 presentations will take place during the conference where the conclusions of new research will be introduced and outstanding scientists in the field of volcanology will be presented with awards.

The IAVCEI international conference is held every four years and this is the first time that it is held in Iceland. A group of Icelandic geologists have prepared for the conference for the past few years.
