Inter to Play ‘The Star’ from Garðabær

Inter from Milano, which four years ago, won the Champions League in football, will play Stjarnan (‘The Star’) from Garðabær, a town outside Reykjavík, for a place in the European League, as announced yesterday.

On Thursday evening, Stjarnan made a 0-0 draw in an away game with Polish giants Lech Poznan and is now only two games away from being the first Icelandic team to play in the European League, visir.is reports.

To secure the game against Inter, Stjarnan played and won three teams, first against Bangor from Wales, then the Scottish team Motherwell and finally Lech Poznan.

Two other Icelanders can contribute to giving their teams a chance to play in the European League, and they will play against each other when Alfreð Finnbogason of Real Sociedad from Spain meets Ragnar Sigurðsson and his Russian team Krasnodar.

The most famous person to have played with Stjarnan is former super defender, now Icelandic Minister of Finance and chair of the Independence Party, Iceland biggest political party, Bjarni Benediktsson.
