The tourism marketing campaign Inspired by Iceland won gold at the European Effie marketing communications awards in Brussels last night. The gold is granted to the campaign which delivers the best results.

The campaign was awarded in the category of social media as the advertising campaign which generated the most profits with the use of social media in Europe in 2011, visir.is reports.
The campaign mostly involved promoting Iceland’s attractions and beauty through Facebook, Twitter and blogs, among other media. The campaign was considered so successful that the 20-person jury decided to grant it another award, the Grand Prix.
With its campaign, the Icelandic tourism industry topped big businesses like Volkswagen and Audi.
