Injured by Burning Lava at Fimmvörduháls

This weekend, a woman burned her hand as she picked up a nugget of lava at Fimmvörduháls, reports. Although it looked harmless, the rock turned out to be scorching hot on the inside.

The walking trail from Thórsmörk towards the craters has become very popular; a relatively safe trail has been marked. However, tourists are encouraged to be cautious; burning magma can still be found in crevices even though two and a half months have passed since the end of the volcanic eruption.

Another tourist stuck his aluminum walking cane into the magma, causing it to melt instantly.
