Injection on RÚV’s Kaupthing Coverage Lifted

The injunction placed on national broadcaster RÚV’s coverage of Kaupthing Bank’s largest debtors—the information was leaked to the internet—was lifted yesterday. The case was reopened at the Reykjavík District Commissioner at RÚV’s request.

The District Commissioner issued the injunction five minutes before RÚV planned to broadcast information about Kaupthing’s debtors on Saturday on the basis of bank secrecy laws, visir.is.

The move caused harsh reaction among politicians and bloggers and the Icelandic Journalist Association along with RÚV’s Association of Reporters objected to the injunction in a joint resolution.
