Initial Numbers Show Independence Party with Strong Lead

The initial numbers are in from all but one voting district in Iceland’s parliamentary election. Only numbers from the Northwest district are lacking. With 50,669 votes counted, the initial results are as follows:

The Independence Party: 29.8 percent

The Left-Green Movement: 17.2 percent

The Pirate Party: 13.5 percent

The Progressive Party: 10.2 percent

The Reform Party: 10.1percent

Bright Future: 7 percent

The Social Democratic Alliance: 6.6 percent

Other parties do not appear to have the 5 percent voter support needed to be represented in Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament.
