Infant in Dumpster Had Unsuspecting Father in Iceland

The results of a DNA analysis show that the newborn and lifeless baby boy left by his mother in the rubbish storage outside the hotel in Reykjavík where she worked in July this summer had a father in Iceland.

The couple lived together in the apartment of the man’s father for some time after October 2010 but later they broke up and she moved out. The baby’s father had no idea that the woman was pregnant, no more than anyone else around her, Fréttabladid reports.

The woman still hasn’t admitted to having given birth to the child. On July 2 the police found the body of an infant in the rubbish storage. It had been wrapped in plastic and hidden away in a dumpster.

A few hours earlier a woman in her early twenties sought treatment for significant bleeding at the Landspítali hospital. Physicians concluded she had recently given birth, even though she claimed she hadn’t been pregnant.

It turned out that she had given birth at the hotel where she worked. The police determined that the infant had been born healthy and that the woman alone is responsible for his death.

She was given a custody sentence and must undergo a psychiatric evaluation. She is under a travel ban until September 1.
