Indian Swimmer Crosses Arctic Circle by Iceland

Bhakti Sharma from Udaipur in India, who has swam in most oceans in the world, crossed the Arctic Circle by Grímsey island north of Iceland this week—now only the Southern Ocean is left.

Followed by her entourage and some sea birds, Sharma swam one nautical mile, which took 33 minutes. She was rather cold after the swim—the ocean temperature was 9.2°C (49°F) at the surface, Morgunbladid reports.

Sharma crossed the English Channel in 2006, when she was only 16, in 13 hours and 55 minutes. The following year she crossed the channel again in relay swimming with her mother and friend in 16 hours and 19 minutes, which is an Asian record.
