Indian Immigrant in East Iceland Not Deported

The Directorate of Immigration decided yesterday not to deport Japsy Jacob, an Indian citizen who has resided in Seydisfjördur, east Iceland, for two years and was supposed to be deported because her work and residence permit had expired.

Jacob’s lawyer appealed the directorate’s decision and the woman has now been given permission to stay in Iceland while her application to renew her work and residence permit is being reviewed, ruv.is reports.

In Seydisfjördur Jacob works as a massage therapist. More than 300 townspeople petitioned to convince immigration authorities to let her stay and a Facebook group was also opened to support their effort.
