Indian Cricket Hero to Apply for Asylum in Iceland?

It is being speculated that former Indian Premiere League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi might seek asylum in Iceland. Modi, who used to be known as the uncrowned king of cricket, is facing charges for having misappropriated the funds of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

According to India Today, Modi’s wife Minal is a good friend of Dorrit Moussaieff, the wife of the Icelandic president, and he intends to use his connection with her to obtain a visa for Iceland.

After the charge against Modi was made public, he was fired from his position within the IPL. He has since been traveling between cities in Europe including Paris, Milan and Monaco, but mainly dwells in London where he has rented a house.

Indian authorities are allegedly planning to internationally declare Modi a wanted criminal if he doesn’t come forward in Mumbai shortly of his own free will.
