Independents Trump Pirates in New Survey

The Independence Party has reclaimed its position as Iceland’s largest political party with a 24.6 percent support ranking, a survey by MMR, published today, shows.

The Pirate Party, which has topped most polls for the past year and a half, is down to 22.4 percent. This is the lowest support ranking the Pirates have seen since February, 2015, when it was at 12.8 percent, ruv.is reports.

In the most recent survey, the Left-Green Movement comes third with 12.4 percent and the Prime Minister Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson’s Progressive Party comes fourth with 10.6 percent.

The Social Democratic Alliance enjoys the support of 9.1 percent of respondents and the new Reform Party, which was fourth in late July, is now at 8.8 percent. Bright Future stands at 4.5 percent and other parties rank around or lower than 2 percent.

The survey was carried out August 22-29.
