A new poll conducted for Fréttablaðið, Stöð 2 and Vísir shows the Independence Party enjoying more support than any other in Iceland, or 25.1 percent. A similar poll conducted last week showed its following at 23.7 percent.
The Pirate Party comes in second with 20.3 percent voter support, according to the poll, the Left-Green Movement gets 16.4 percent, followed by the Progressive Party and the Reform Party, which receive 11.2 and 10.8 percent support, respectively (up from 8.5 and 6.6 percent, respectively, last week).
The Social Democratic Alliance receives 6 percent support in the poll, whereas Bright Future gets 5.1 percent (down from 7.4 percent last week).
In this poll, conducted October 24 and 25, more people named a party they said they would vote for than in last week’s poll, or 76.6 percent, compared with 68 percent last week. Just over 6 percent said they did not intend to vote or planned to turn in a blank ballot, nine percent were undecided, and almost 8 percent chose not to answer the question.
The poll was conducted by contacting 1,127 people by phone until 802 were reached. Thus, the response rate was 71.2 percent.
A parliamentary election will be held in Iceland on Saturday.
