Independence Party Leader Reiterates Opposition to Constitutional Council Proposal

Chairman of the opposition’s Independence Party Bjarni Benediktsson has reiterated his opposition to the work of the Constitutional Council forming a basis of a new constitution. The council’s work will be put to a referendum on October 20, mbl.is reports.

Bjarni however stated that the proposal included some good points but that it could not form the foundation of the new constitution. He criticizes the government for not having put the draft proposal up for substantial debate in parliament.
