Increased enrollment of foreign students at the University of Iceland

Morgunblaðið reports today that 650 foreign students were enrolled at the University of Iceland last winter, up from 250 in 2000. Out of the 650, 300 were exchange students participating through exchange programs such as Erasmus and Nordplus.

Twohundred and ninetythree students came to Iceland through the Erasmus program last year in exchange for 224 Icelanders who went abroad.

During the last academic year, Germans and Swedes comprised the most numerous contingents at the University of Iceland numbering 86 and 48, respectively.

In other news, Reykjavík University is experiencing a record number of applications this spring, with 1,700 people applying for the 900 places available in the coming academic year that starts in the fall.
