The District Court of North Iceland sentenced a man in his twenties for two months in prison last Thursday for stealing a hot pot from a patio.
But the man might escape imprisonment if he manages to stay on the right side of the law for three years of probation, as reported on mbl.is.
The man is set to pay the owner of the hot pot ISK 204,926 (EUR 2,352, USD 2,999) in compensation and to cover part of the legal cost.
The hot pot was stolen from a patio by a summer house in February 2006. As the hot pot had yet to be glued to the patio, the thief could remove it with a crowbar.
The thief was tracked down after an observant citizen contacted the police in Akureyri.
