Immigrant Worker Dies in Job-Related Accident

An immigrant worker of Polish origin died onboard a freighter docked at the harbor in Hafnarfjördur, outside Reykjavík, yesterday. The man, who was in his forties, was working on transporting containers onto the ship when the accident occurred.

According to Heidrún Jónsdóttir, managing director of transport company Eimskip, which owns the freighter, the man seems to have gotten caught between the ship’s railing and a container which swung in a sharp gust of wind, Fréttabladid reports.

The man is believed to have died immediately. Police are investigating the accident.
