Illegal Drug Market Changing in Iceland

Police have confiscated more hard drugs than hashish recently and Karl Steinar Valsson, chief of the capital region police drug department, stated yesterday that the illegal drug market in Iceland is changing towards the drug market overseas.

“We are talking about thoroughly organized operations and the only way authorities can fight back is to have equally organized operations, and we believe we do,” Valsson told Morgunbladid.

Last weekend two men were arrested for smuggling liquid cocaine with express delivery from the US, and last week 58 kilos of amphetamine were confiscated onboard a vessel in east Iceland.

According to Fréttabladid, two Icelanders are being held in custody in relation to the amphetamine case.
