IGS’ Violation of Competition Law Confirmed

The Reykjavík District Court confirmed yesterday that IGS Ground Services at Keflavík International Airport has abused its market-leading position while servicing passenger jets and thus violated competition law.

According to the ruling, IGS violated competition law by offering airlines that land in Keflavík service that effectively hinders competition, ruv.is reports.

Originally the company was fined by ISK 80 million (USD 1.3 million, EUR 907,000) but the Competition Authority’s appeal committee reduced the fine to ISK 60 million (USD 961,000, EUR 680,000).

IGS then took the case before the Reykjavík District Court, asking that the appeal committee’s ruling be overturned and the fine dismissed or reduced considerably.
