Icy Roads in South Iceland

The Ring Road east of Reykjavík was closed last night because of heavy snowfall.

It has been reopened, but the condition of the popular 500 km (300 mile) stretch from the capital to Höfn, Southeast Iceland, varies greatly. The first 100 km (60 miles) to Hvolsvöllur from Reykjavík are covered with snow. The next 150 km (90 miles) to Kirkjubæjarklaustur are icy.

The part of the Ring Road from Kirkjubæjarklaustur to Skaftafell is clear, and the remaining 120 km (70 miles) to Höfn are partly slippery.

The temperature in South Iceland, today is around -5° C (23° F).
