Iceland’s prime minister unaware of prison transfer flights

Prime minister Halldór Ásgrímsson said yesterday that he was not told about the CIA prison transfers while he was minister of foreign affairs and nor when became prime minister, reports the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service.

According to the New York Times a report, released yesterday, from the Council of Europe, stated that it was ‘”highly unlikely” that European governments were unaware of the American program of renditions, in which terrorism suspects were either seized in Europe or transferred through the Continent to third countries where they may have been tortured.’

When this report was mentioned to Halldór Ásgrímsson, yesterday, he said that he had no indication, after news concerning the abductions and transfer flights hit the media, that others had known about these actions of the US intelligence services.
