Hannes Þór Halldórsson, the goalkeeper of the Icelandic national football team, directed a video shoot for a Coca-Cola advertisement today. The Icelandic team is currently gathering together in Reykjavík to start preparations for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Hannes’ preparations surely differ from most of his counterparts at the World Cup this summer, which kicks off on the 14th of June.
The ad is expected to be revealed as part of Coca-Cola’s campaign for the World Cup this summer. It is safe to say this ad will be the only one shot by a director who will be playing in the World Cup this summer.
Hannes Þór currently plies his trade with Randers FC in the Danish Superliga, and worked as a director before becoming a professional footballer. He has directed countless productions, one of the most notable was Iceland’s video for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest entry. His previous employer Sagafilm promised Hannes a return to his prior employment once he retires as a professional footballer.
Some of the team members have already started training, but members of the team who play in Denmark had an extended break after their season to rest ahead of the preparatory training. Iceland will play two friendly fixtures on home soil as part of their preparations for the World Cup. The matches will take place on the 2nd of June, versus Norway, and on the 7th of June versus Ghana. The Icelandic team will face off against Croatia, Argentina, and Nigeria this summer in Russia.
Hannes is the first choice goalkepper for the Icelandic team, having featured 48 times, and is expected to start in goal at the World Cup. However, he encountered a setback recently as he was substituted due to a hamstring injury. Updates of his injury have been positive thus far, so it is expected Hannes will not miss out on any matches at the World Cup.
