Icelandic Women Host #metoo Readings on Sunday

Icelandic women will come together across the country on Sunday for public readings of #metoo stories from Iceland, RÚV reports. Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir and pop artist Hildur are among those who will read.

The events will be held live at the same time in Reykjavík, Akureyri (North Iceland), Ísafjörður (West Fjords), and Seyðisfjörður (East Iceland) and will be streamed live on RÚV. The accounts come from women in film, theatre, music, politics, journalism, sports, science, and other fields.

Women around the world have been coming forward with accounts of sexual harassment and violence under the banner of the #metoo movement. Iceland Review has previously reported on the movement’s impact in Iceland.

The live broadcast of the event will begin at 4 pm on International Human Rights Day. The event will last around one hour, with the same script performed in all four locations.
