The Icelandic women’s national team in football beat the Portuguese team 3-0 in the final game of qualifying round C in the annual Algarve Cup in Portugal yesterday. The Icelandic team is now in the top of its category.
Iceland will play Finland for 7th place in the tournament tomorrow, mbl.is reports.
Margrét Lára Vidarsdóttir scored two goals in the first half of the game against Portugal, in the 15th and 18th minutes, and captain Katrín Jónsdóttir scored the third goal after a corner kick in the second half, in the 69th minute.
That was Jónsdóttir’s tenth goal for the national team. Yesterday’s game was her 69th and she has thus equaled the number of games played by Ásthildur Helgadóttir. No other Icelandic female footballer has played more games.
