Icelandic Woman Sentenced to Prison in New York

By Iceland Review

Linda Björk Magnúsdóttir, an Icelandic citizen in her forties, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison in New York for entering the US illegally and escaping from a court house after being arrested.

Magnúsdóttir was arrested in November last year when she crossed the US border from Canada. She escaped from a court house in Plattsburgh while waiting to be called before a judge, Fréttabladid reports.

An extensive search was launched. Federal agents, city and state police forces participated in the search and a helicopter was also used.

Magnúsdóttir was found eight hours later and has remained in custody until this week.
