The Icelandic contestants in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver were presented yesterday at the Canadian Embassy in Iceland, where Canadian Ambassador Alan Bones hosted a reception. Minister of Education Katrín Jakobsdóttir was present when the Olympic team was introduced.
President of the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ÍSÍ) Ólafur Rafnsson introduced the group that will participate in the Olympics, which begin on February 12, and the group that will compete at the Paralympics, which begin on March 12, as stated on the website of ÍSÍ.
The Olympic contestants are Árni Thorvaldsson, Björgvin Björgvinsson, Íris Gudmundsdóttir and Stefán Jón Sigurgeirsson, all of whom will compete in alpine sports. Erna Fridriksdóttir is the only Paralymic contestant; she will also compete in alpine sports. The two teams also consist of trainers and tour organizers.
