Icelandic Swimmer Finishes Eighth in Rio

Icelandic swimmer Eygló Ósk Gústafsdóttir finished 8th in the 200 m backstroke at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro Friday night, Vísir reports. Her time was 2:09,44, which fell short of her time in the semi-finals, which was 2:08;84. US swimmer Maya Dirado came in first at 2:05,99; Hungarian Katinka Hosszú came in second, and Canadian Hilary Caldwell finished third. You can watch the swim here.

Eygló is the third Icelandic swimmer to compete in finals at Olympic games. Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir finished sixth in the 100 m breaststroke in Rio, and in 2000, Örn Arnarson finished fourth in the 200 m backstroke in Sydney.
