Twenty-four-year-old Gylfi, who was also recently named Icelandic Footballer of the Year, was considered key in Iceland’s success in the World Cup 2014 qualifiers, scoring important goals. Gylfi also scored well for Tottenham in the English Premier League.

In second place was 17-year-old middle-distance track athlete Aníta Hinriksdóttir, the world and European youth champion in the 800-meter distance.

Handballer Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson, who plays for Kiel in Germany, was in third place. Coach Alfreð Gíslason, who also works for Kiel, was chosen Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.

The Icelandic national team in men’s football was chosen Team of the Year for making Icelandic history by progressing to the World Cup qualifiers.
