Icelandic Singer Performs with Icelandic Opera

One of Iceland’s most well-known singers, operatic tenor Kristján Jóhannsson, will perform at the Icelandic Opera in Reykjavík for the first time in his career as part of two operas premiering on September 19.

“I am very excited about it,” Jóhannsson told Fréttabladid. He last appearance on an Icelandic operatic stage was 14 years ago in the National Theater when Stefán Baldursson, the current director of the Icelandic Opera, was at the helm.

“My friend Stefán Baldursson contacted me. He thought it was time that I marched back on stage in Iceland,” Jóhansson said.

At the Icelandic Opera Jóhannsson will perform Cavelleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and Pagliacci by Ruggiero Leoncavallo. There will be ten shows of each opera.
