Icelandic Short Film Awarded in LA

sailcloth_posterThe Icelandic short film Sailcloth by director Elfar Aðalsteinsson, received two awards at the Los Angeles Movie Awards on Monday for outstanding short film and best cinematography by Karl Óskarsson.

English actor John Hurt stars in the short film, which has now earned Elfar and his crew four awards in total, Morgunblaðið reports. It was also among short films tipped to land an Oscar nomination this year.

In other film news, Hreint hjarta (“Pure Heart”) was named best film at the Skjaldborg documentary festival in Patreksfjörður, the West Fjords, last weekend, ruv.is reports.

The documentary, directed by Grímur Hákonarson, features Kristinn Árni Friðfinnsson, who has served as priest in Selfoss and the vicinity for 20 years. The director describes him as a “colorful character,” who “plays the part of both pastor and exorcist.”
