Icelandic Seal Center Offers Seals for Adoption

The Icelandic Seal Center in Hvammstangi, North Iceland, is offering seals for ‘adoption’ for the first time.

The program is aimed at raising funds for the center’s research programs including seal counting, managing director Vignir Skúlason explained to ruv.is. “We were counting the seals in Breiðafjörður, labeling them and taking photos of them and the idea was to do something with that.”

Interested parties can view photographs of the different seals, select a seal, fill in the adoption papers and pay a fee of ISK 5,000 (USD 42, EUR 32). The new foster parents then receive updates on the seal.
