Icelandic rockers in Global Battle of the Bands

Perla, a progressive rock band from Reykjavík, has earned the right to compete with 24 other bands at the Global Battle of the Bands World Final in London on 12 December.

Perla won the Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) Iceland 2006 National Final on 24 November. The band took on 15 other Icelandic bands playing in a series of concerts.

On 12 December at the London Astoria, 24 bands from around the world, including Deja Vu from the Faroe Islands, will compete about the GBOB Best New Band in the World title, USD 100,000 (EUR 75,317), a world tour and three Gibson guitars.

The five band members of Perla have only been together since May this year. A press release issued by the band this week, says, “With their powerful guitar sound and dreamy vocals Perla have earned the right to prove their musical skills on an international level.”

“The GBOB is about real bands playing real music – live. There are just two rules: no cover songs and no pre-recorded music,” the band states.
