One of Iceland’s more popular health food restaurants is to open in Orlando, Florida on Thursday. Saffran is a restaurant known for healthy food mostly made from fresh Icelandic produce and inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine; the first branch to open outside of Iceland will be in Orlando near the Florida Mall. The grand opening starts on Thursday and ends on Sunday.

Jay Jamchi and Haukur Vídisson opened the first restaurant in 2009 in Mjódd, a local mall near Laugardalur valley in Reykjavík and it is Jay Jamchi who is in charge of the opening in Orlando. The two plan to open four more branches in North America in the next 18 months; likely locations to follow are the state of California and the cities of New York, and Boston in the United States and Toronto in Canada.
“Our goal is to open restaurants around the globe and Orlando is the perfect place to start as millions of people pass through the city. The restaurant is a replica of the Icelandic branches as we see no need to change the decor that has worked so well for us in Iceland,” Jamchi told Fréttabladid.
Saffran already has 2 branches in Reykjavík and one in Kópavogur, a small town in the greater metropolitan area of Reykjavík.
