Icelandic Red Cross Sends ISK 10 Million to Gaza

The Icelandic Red Cross announced on Monday that it would send ISK 10 million (USD 87,000, EUR 64,000) to the Palestinian Red Crescent for relief work in Gaza in light of the humanitarian crisis in the area. A phone line service for collecting donations has also been set up.

The Red Crescent medical staff have been working under dangerous conditions in recent days, treating the wounded and managing the distribution of relief supplies.

Donations can be made via the following phone numbers with the last four digits indicating the amount: 904 1500, 904 2500 and 904 5500. Donations can also be transferred to the Icelandic Red Cross’ account (number: 342-26-12, kennitala (registration number): 530269-2649) or via credit card here.

The Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson also announced this week that Iceland would be allocating ISK 12 million (USD 104,000, EUR 77,700) to two United Nations programs operating in Gaza.

Half of the funds will go to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) while the other half will go to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East).
