Icelandic President to Run in Reykjavík Marathon

First, he ran for president; now, he runs as president. Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson has signed up for the Reykjavík Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, August 20th. There, he will be running the distance of half a marathon, or 21 km (13 miles), in support of the Landspítali Hospital Grensás rehabilitation center, according to RÚV. Guðni has participated in the Reykjavík Marathon since 2005.

RÚV suggests that Guðni may be the world’s first president in office to participate in a marathon. Guðni chose to support Grensás because two of his friends recently received rehabilitation services there. That gave him insight into the good work being done at the center and its need for quality equipment.
