Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, the President of Iceland, has sent Finland a video of himself congratulating the nation for a hundred years of independence. Vísir reports.
The video, posted on the Finnish public broadcasting company YLE, is over a minute long and features the President standing outside his residence in Bessastaðir, wearing an Icelandic woollen sweater.
According to YLE, Guðni’s Finnish pronunciation is excellent while reading out loud his message to the nation, honouring the bond between Iceland and Finland. “Between us lies a strong friendship and sometimes we are said to be alike. We are honoured by the comparison because there is so much we can learn from you. You have built a community of solidarity, freedom and progress of which you undoubtedly aim to improve even further in the future.”
