Icelandic Parliament Member Asked For Illegal Stream

Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, chairman of Alþingi’s Judicial Affairs and Education Committee, has been heavily criticized for inquiring about an illegal streaming link for the UFC fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, Stundin reports. This was tweeted from her Twitter account last Sunday night, although the tweet has since been removed.

The Judicial Affairs and Education Committee is responsible for all media affairs in Iceland and TV station Stöð 2 Sport purchased the exclusive rights to broadcast the match in Iceland. Any online stream of the match would, therefore, have been considered illegal under Icelandic jurisdiction.

Áslaug Arna is a member of Alþingi, the Icelandic Parliament, for the Independence Party. Aged 26, Áslaug is the youngest chairman of the Judicial Affairs and Education Committee.

Update:

Áslaug Arna posted an apology earlier today as she admitted her mistake in asking for the illegal stream. The Parliament member posted the apology on her Facebook site earlier today. “I know better but I can offer an apology. I understand that I missed a good fight” she quipped.
