Icelandic Ophthalmology Receives Attention Abroad

The conclusion of a recent study undertaken by Icelandic ophthalmologists on the results of regular eye inspection of diabetics has received considerable attention in other countries and has been used to reorganize services for such patients.

The study concluded that it is safe to reduce the frequency of eye inspections of people suffering from diabetics, and those results are being used to optimize services for diabetics in England to save money, mbl.is reports.

Articles by Icelandic ophthalmologists Professor Einar Stefánsson and PhD student Eydís Ólafsdóttir, both at the University of Iceland, were published in the December issue of The British Journal of Ophthalmology, where they discuss the results of the study.
