Icelandic Novel Shortlisted for IMPAC Dublin Award

The novel From the Mouth of the Whale (Rökkurbýsnir; 2008) by Icelandic author Sjón is among ten books nominated for the respected International IMAPC Dublin Literary Award.

Originally, 154 novels were nominated for the award.

The award is granted for an international work of fiction in English by the city of Dublin, Ireland and the company IMPAC. At EUR 100,000 (ISK 15 million, USD 131,000) it is one of the highest literary prizes in the world.

Among other contenders are Michel Houellebecq for The Map and the Territory; 2010) and Haruki Murakami for 1Q84 (2009). The winner will be announced on June 6.
