Icelandic newspaper in Boston

Icelandic media company Dagsbrun Media Fund, which publishes the free newspaper Nyhedsavisen in Denmark, is to launch the free newspaper Boston Now in the US next fall.

According to Morgunbladid, the other free newspaper in Boston, Metro Boston, currently published in 165,000 copies, is to increase its circulation to 200,000 as a response to potential competition from Boston Now.

The Boston Now project is in the hands of Russel Pergament that also launched Metro Boston and the free newspaper AM New York. Metro Boston was launched in 2001 and is owned by Metro International and The New York Times.

Dagsbrun Media Fund, in which Icelandic media company 365 holds an 18 percent share, has plans of launching free newspapers in eight or ten other US cities, as Morgunbladid reports.
