According to the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service prime minister Halldór Ásgrímsson has appointed a committee to identify the problems concerning unhealthy nourishment, obesity, eating disorders and the lack of exercise. The committee will put forward proposals for coordinated actions for improving the nation’s health next April.
The committee is made up of the chair of the Icelandic Medical Association, a physical education teacher, principal of a day care center, the assistant to the minister of health, director of the Public Health Centers, a food scientist and a nutritionist. The nutritionist is one of Iceland’s most successful herbal life sales men, Dr. Jón Óttar Ragnarsson. Thorgrimur Thráinsson, journalist and anti-smoking campaigner is to chair the committee.
