Icelandic Musicians Play Nine Hundred Concerts Abroad

Icelandic musicians have played a combined 880 concerts abroad so far this year compared to 1,400 during the entire 2013, ruv.is reports.

There has been significant growth in music exports from Iceland in the last two years, according to Anna Ásthildur Thorsteinsson, a project manager at Iceland Music Export.

Anna says that the ISK 20 million in grants which have been provided to Icelandic musicians both this year and last could be a contributing factor to the increase in the number of concerts.

Anna said in an interview with ruv.is. that she is convinced that the money spent on the grants is returned to the economy through visits by Icelandic music lovers to Iceland.
