Icelandic Musical Siblings a Hit on YouTube

Five Icelandic siblings, who posted a video of themselves performing The Real Group’s ‘Pass Me the Jazz’ on YouTube on January 2 and shared it with their Facebook friends as a New Year’s greeting, have proven a major online hit, their video having been viewed more than 7,000 times.

The musical siblings, Sólveig, Kristín and Hólmfríður Sigurðar- og Hildardóttir, and Albert and Páll Axel Sigurðar- og Hildarson, perform the song a capella. On YouTube they go by name The Malmquist 5, mbl.is reports.

“We don’t see each other that often because I live in Denmark, the second and third oldest siblings in Reykjavík and the two youngest at our parents’ [in Akureyri],” said Sólveig, who suggested the stunt. “So when we do meet … we try to do something together and our family has always been very musical.”

Sólveig got the idea about a year ago and so she acquired the music notes from The Real Group in Sweden, who performed ‘Pass Me the Jazz’ originally.

“We were very surprised about so many people having watched the video,” said Sólveig. The Malmquist 5 are now preparing their next performance.
