Former Minister of Health, Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson of the Independence Party, sent out a news release on Friday on his financial support in the 2006 primary campaign against Björn Bjarnason, then Minister of Justice. The two fought for second place on the slate of the Independence Party. The report showed that Thórdarson got a total of 24.8 million ISK in campaign contributions, at the time 366 thousand USD or 280 thousand Euros.

The report also showed that the biggest contributors were:

Baugur 2.0 million ISK

FL Group 2.0 million ISK

Fons 2.0 million ISK

Austursel 1.5 million ISK (Company of attorney Hreinn Loftsson)

Landsbanki Íslands 1.5 million ISK

The report lists contributors for a total of 15.9 million ISK but leaves out 16 contributors who gave a total of just under 9 million ISK. Most of the companies on the list are now bankrupt.
