Icelandic mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete Gunnar Nelson remains undefeated (11-0-1) after his convincing win in a UFC welterweight bout against Jorge Santiago from the U.S. at Wembley Stadium, London, on Saturday.
From Gunnar’s Facebook page.
According to mmaweekly.com, it was Nelson’s “constant takedowns and takedown attempts that wore Santiago down.”
Gunnar spoke with Sherdog.com following the fight: “It was definitely a very good fight and I’m happy with this win. Santiago is a tough opponent and this fight was obviously different from most of my other fights. It went to three rounds and it was a tough fight, you know, I got tired and there were a lot of exchanges and a lot of scenarios and a lot of situations that I can take back to the gym and start working on,” he said.
Icelandic gaming company CCP recently announced a sponsorship deal with Gunnar. The 24-year-old was also recently awarded the title of 2012 Nordic Breakthrough Fighter of the Year by Nordic MMA news site MMA Viking, and Fighter of the Year and Submission of the Year, at the Cage Contender Awards in Ireland.
