Icelandic Magazine Names PM Woman of the Year

Icelandic glossy magazine Nýtt líf has named Prime Minister of Iceland Jóhanna Sigurdardóttir Woman of the Year. A ceremony in Sigurdardóttir’s honor was held yesterday, where the PM was presented with a painting by Ásdís Spanó.

The magazine’s editorship quickly came to a unanimous decision on who was worthy of the title this year, concluding that apart from all political issues, Sigurdardóttir is a role model for women who want to rise to power, Fréttabladid reports.

Since the Republic of Iceland was founded in 1944, no politician has faced as challenging projects as Sigurdardóttir is facing now, the editorship explained.

It is admirable that Sigurdardóttir, a woman in her sixties, is determined to show in action that she is capable of coping with the pressure that comes with the job of being Iceland’s most high-ranking leader, the magazine stated.
