Icelandic Literature Nominated for Nordic Council Prize

Icelandic authors Sigurður Pálsson and Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir’s works have been nominated for the 2018 Nordic Council Literature Prize. RÚV reported first. Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir received the nomination for her novel Ör, and Sigurður Pálsson for the poetry collection Ljóð muna rödd.

Sigurður passed away in September of last year. Ljóð muna rödd is his last work. He was previously nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1993.

Ör won the Icelandic Literary Award last year. It describes the life of Jónas Ebeneser, a 49-year-old divorcee. Critics have called it “artistically well written, beautifully textured, and profound.”

The award will be presented at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo on October 30th.
