Icelandic króna hits four year low

Yesterday, the Icelandic króna index hit a four year high closing at 131.10. The index has not reached this level since May 2002.

The Icelandic króna index measures how expensive a trade-weighted basket of currencies is in terms of Icelandic króna – the higher the index, the lower the value of the króna.

The US dollar closed at ISK 76.75, the British pound at ISK 136.40 and the Euro at ISK 94.30.

According to Landsbanki, both stocks and bonds declined across the board yesterday. In its daily bulletin yesterday, Landsbanki also said that market sentiment had shifted from optimism to pessimism.

In morning trading today, the ISK moved down another 1.5 per cent.
