A new Icelandic documentary Íslenska krónan, features the Icelandic currency, its history current position and future prospects. Directed by Garðar Stefánsson and produced by Atli Bollason, it will be screened at Bíó Paradís cinema in Reykjavík starting this Sunday.
The film was seven years in the making and includes the Icelandic banking collapse, which occurred in October 2008. Launching the project in spring 2008, the film was originally supposed to cover the pros and cons of adopting the euro in Iceland, kjarninn.is reports.
Garðar and Atli later rewrote the film with the goal of educating the public about financial issues and terms such as inflation, indexation, foreign currencies and interest rates.
The film is intended to be educational and easily-understandable, reflecting different opinions and critical views. Interviewees include Central Bank governor Már Guðmundsson, investor Heiðar Már Guðjónsson, MP Vigdís Hauksdóttir, philosopher Eyja Margrét Brynjarsdóttir and historian Guðni Th. Jóhannesson.
